The event, hosted by Mahopac for Racial Justice, is scheduled to take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.

The march will begin at the Michael Geary Memorial Roller Hockey Rink on US-6 and end at the Mahopac Chamber of Commerce Park where entertainment, food, and beverages will be available.

People of all races, ages, and genders are invited to gather to show support to the minoritized community in Mahopac and surrounding areas.

At the end of the march, there will be performances and a clothespin demonstration featuring 100 anonymous stories of racism experienced by members of the community.

The organization is stressing the importance of standing together during "these troubling times," in an effort to encourage change and help local officials find solutions.

“I urge local political and academic leaders to take this moment of change in America to look in the mirror and ask themselves what they can do to turn Mahopac into a place that’s comfortable and inclusive for all,” said Jeff Pearlman, a New York Times best-selling author and Mahopac native.

The organization said its vision is to create an equitable Mahopac for all members of the community and that they will not tolerate hate speech, belittlement, or injustice in any form.

In compliance with COVID-19 health guidelines, all attendees are urged to wear a mask and to bring a sign, as well as hand sanitizer.

For the safety of all attendees, event organizers may ask citizens to shift positions in order to maintain social distancing measures.
